Smoke from the cockpit of Srilankan Airlines while climbing out
Srilankan A333 at Melbourne smell smoke on board
A Srilankan Airlines Airbus A330-300, registration 4R-ALQ performing flight UL-605 from Melbourne,VI (Australia) to Colombo (Sri Lanka), was climbing out of Melbourne's runway 16 when the crew stopped the climb at about FL215 reporting smell of smoke on board.
The aircraft returned to Melbourne for a safe landing on runway 16 about 50 minutes after departure.
Passengers reported they smelled smoke in the cabin which appeared to be coming from the cockpit. Soon after the captain announced they would return to Melbourne.
The airline reported a technical issue prompted the return to Melbourne. All passengers disembarked safely.
The aircraft is still on the ground in Melbourne about 13 hours after landing back.
