Engine! Engine!! Engine!!! Egypt Air had a taste of failure in-flight

Egypt B738 at Alexandria experienced engine failure   An Egypt Air Boeing 737-800, registration SU-GCM performing positioning flight MS-4413 from Alexandria (Egypt) to Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), was climbing through FL170 out of Alexandria when the crew stopped the climb, initiated a descent and entered a hold due to an engine (CFM56) failure.  The aircraft subsequently returned to Alexandria for a safe landing about 50 minutes after departure. A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration SU-GED positioned from Cairo (Egypt) to Jeddah to pick up the 140 Umrah pilgrim waiting for their flight back home. The airline reported the occurrence aircraft suffered a technical malfunction. A replacement aircraft was dispatched from Cairo to pick up the 140 pilgrim waiting for their flight home. In-flight engine failure on Southwest Airlines

Southwest B738 at Fort Lauderdale had an engine shut down in flight A Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration N8578Q performing flight WN-1575 from Fort Lauderdale,FL to Houston Hobby,TX (USA) with 184 people on board, was climbing out of Fort Lauderdale's runway 10L when the crew reported a right hand engine (CFM56) failure, the crew stopped the climb at about 4000 feet and decided to return to Fort Lauderdale.  The aircraft returned to Fort Lauderdale for a safe landing on runway 10L about 16 minutes after departure. The aircraft vacated the runway and stopped for an inspection by emergency services before continuing to the apron. Compressor stall on American Airlines

American A319 at Boston had an engine compressor stall   An American Airlines Airbus A319-100, registration N762US performing flight AA-1146 from Boston,MA to Philadelphia,PA (USA), was climbing out of Boston's runway 22R when the crew requested to level off at 6000 feet reporting they had a compressor stall on one of their engines (CFM56) and there was a brief smell of smoke afterwards, hence they wanted to return to Boston.  The crew requested a long final while working 5 or 6 things they had to do. The aircraft landed safely back on runway 22L about 20 minutes after departure. Passengers reported they saw a streak of flames and some smoke, the captain subsequently announced it was a bird strike. A replacement Airbus A321-200N registration N467AL is estimated to reach Philadelphia with a delay of about 10 hours. Bird Strike on Egypt Air's engine

Egypt B738 at Entebbe had a bird strike  An Egypt Air Boeing 737-800, registration SU-GDZ performing flight MS-835 from Entebbe (Uganda) to Cairo (Egypt) with 116 people on board, was climbing out of Entebbe's runway 17 when a bird impacted one of the engines (CFM56) prompting the crew to divert to Kigali (Rwanda) where the aircraft landed safely on runway 28 about 35 minutes later. The aircraft remained on the ground in Kigali until Mar 3rd, then flew directly to Cairo as flight MS-835. MS-835 route is Cairo-Kigali-Entebbe-Cairo.

Flybondi rejects takeoff due to bird strike

Flybondi B738 at Buenos Aires rejected takeoff due to bird strike A Flybondi Boeing 737-800, registration LV-KEF performing flight FO-5900 from Buenos Aires Ezeiza,BA (Argentina) to Rio de Janeiro,RJ (Brazil), was accelerating for takeoff from Ezeiza's runway 35 when the right hand engine (CFM56) ingested a bird and emitted a serious of bangs and streaks of flames.  The crew rejected takeoff and returned to the apron. A replacement Boeing 737-800 registration LV-KEH reached Rio with a delay of about 5 hours. The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Buenos Aires. Argentina's JST reported they have opened an investigation into the occurrence that happened to LV-KEF on Feb 28th 2024 at about 12:45 UTC at Ezeiza Airport. Engine decides to cool off in-flight

United B738 near Atlanta experience engine shut down mid flight A United Boeing 737-800, registration N76528 performing flight UA-575 from Charlotte,NC to Houston Intercontinental,TX (USA) with 138 people on board, was enroute at FL300 about 50nm east of Atlanta,GA (USA) when the crew reported they had lost their left hand engine (CFM56).  The aircraft diverted to Atlanta for a safe landing on runway 27R about 30 minutes after leaving FL300. After landing the crew requested emergency services to look after the left hand engine. The FAA reported: "United Airlines Flight 575 landed safely at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport around 8 a.m. local time on Wednesday, Jan. 31 after the crew reported a possible engine issue." and opened an investigation. According to information The Aviation Herald received the loss of engine oil prompted the shut down of the left hand engine in flight. Emergency Landing of Flybondi B738 at Argentina

Flybondi B738 at Buenos Aires faced an emergency due to "technical novelty" A Flybondi Boeing 737-800, registration LV-KEF performing flight FO-5100 from Buenos Aires Ezeiza,BA to Iguazu,MI (Argentina), was climbing out of Ezeiza's runway 11 when the crew stopped the climb at FL060 reporting a hydraulic failure and entered a hold. In the meantime the airport stopped arrivals causing a number of aircraft to divert. The aircraft subsequently returned to Ezeiza for a safe landing on runway 11 at a higher than normal speed (about 160 knots over ground) about 30 minutes after departure and vacated the runway. Passengers reported the captain announced a "technical problem", they believe it was a problem with one of the engines (CFM56) possibly related to hydraulics. Bird strike; Lufthansa A343 at the mercy of birds

Lufthansa A343 at Boston bird strike A Lufthansa Airbus A340-300, registration D-AIGN performing flight LH-423 from Boston,MA (USA) to Frankfurt/Main (Germany), was climbing out of Boston's runway 04R when the crew stopped the climb reporting they had high vibrations on one of their engines (CFM56) as result of a bird strike.  The crew decided to return to Boston, dump fuel and landed safely back on Boston's runway 33L about 50 minutes after departure.  The flight was cancelled. The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground for about 6 days before positioning back to Frankfurt. The aircraft is still on the ground in Frankfurt another day after landing in Frankfurt.
